The ManKave USA Story
A few years ago, my husband was diagnosed with a deadly form of skin cancer, known as Melanoma. Our initial thought was, how can black people get a disease that we believed was exclusive to the white community? When I first saw the mole under his foot, I thought nothing of it. After a period of time I saw this small mole get bigger and advised my husband to see his doctor. Early detection and treatment probably saved his life. Many men in our communities must overcome the fear and possible stigma of going to the doctor After extensive surgery and an inability to walk for several months, he realized that he should have sought medical attention sooner. An appropriate diet and exercise have also helped with his recover. As a caregiver, I have firsthand knowledge of some resources that are available when working to overcome various challenges, while dealing with the illness of a loved one.
